Willie Posey Gilbert

GILBERT, WILLIE RUTH POSEY 7/18/13 - 7/16/08 Just two days shy of her 95th birthday, Willie Ruth Posey Gilbert, joined her Precious Lord Jesus in paradise. She had looked forward to her birthday and what better way to celebrate than to be reunited in Glory with her beloved husband of 55 years, Howard Cecil Gilbert, who preceded her in 1991. Of six siblings, she leaves behind only her youngest sister, Mecie Posey McLeroy of Sumiton, AL. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by four children; Billy Gilbert (Barbara) of Winfield, AL, Sherry Alvis of Morris, AL, Nancy Crowson of Corner, AL and David M. Gilbert (Lynn) of Corner, AL; eight grandchildren: Jay Alvis (Debbie), Kay Jones (Teddy), Sidney Gilbert, Lisa Cummings, Jo Alvis, Amy Aldridge (Randy), William Crowson (Shana) and Sherry Evans (John); seven great grandchildren: Matthew Shabani, Dustin Jones (Blair), Joseph Alvis, Jayme Alvis, Hope Evans, Charity Evans and Faith Evans. Mrs. Gilbert was a long-time member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 37 years and for many years sang in the church choir. She was a woman of unquestionable integrity, and incredible strength, in both body and spirit. Her life was not always easy, and certainly never glamorous, but she was perfectly content. Her favorite scripture was from Psalms 118, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" She put it into practice daily as she always seemed in a pleasant mood, singing a hymn as she went about her day. For many years that included serving up three of the most mouthwatering home cooked meals anyone ever tasted! She was a great example of what a Christian woman should be in her kindness, generosity and humility. In short, she was a woman of great character. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will forever reign as the "best Granny in the whole wide world" in the hearts of her family! Services will be held Friday, July 18, 2008 at 4:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Corner, AL. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM Friday, just prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery. Gardendale Funeral Home directing.
