Robert Huland Moore

Funeral services for Robert Huland Moore, 93, of Gardendale, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home in Gardendale, Alabama with the Reverend Mark Harrison officiating. Music will be provided by George Weeks. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the service begins. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Mr. Moore passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in Gardendale, Alabama. Mr. Moore was born on November 3, 1929, in Cullman, Alabama to Marvin Wesley Moore and Leola Hutchinson Moore. Mr. Moore graduated from West Point High School in West Point, Alabama in 1948 and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He married Betty Carolyn McElroy on April 25, 1952. Following his service in the Navy, he attended the Gruen watch school in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from watch school in 1956, Mr. Moore returned to Alabama where he began working for Bromberg’s Jewelers in Birmingham, Alabama. At Bromberg’s, he began as a watchmaker in the downtown Birmingham store and later managed the Hoover Mall and Mountain Brook stores until his retirement in 1997. Following his retirement, he continued to provide watch repair services for Bromberg’s for many years. Mr. Moore loved his family and his church, Gardendale First Baptist Church. He was a loving husband for 71 years, a wonderful dad, an awesome father-in-law, and an incredible “Poppa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At church, Mr. Moore was a 7th-grade Sunday School teacher served on the finance committee and the deacon board, and helped establish the church’s first kindergarten program in the early 1960’s. He also served as an usher and a greeter. Mr. Moore’s enduring faith in Jesus Christ was his gift to others. Mr. Moore is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Cornelius. He is survived by beloved wife, Betty McElroy Moore; his son, Robert Terry Moore, and wife, Dolores; his daughter, Diane Moore Selman and husband, Scott; grandson, Brian Andrew Selman, and wife, Demetria; granddaughter, Kate Selman French, and husband, Drew; great-grandsons, Cooper Andrew French, Miller Robert French, and Huland Michael Selman; great-granddaughter, Larsen Kate French; his sister, Eunice Camp; his sister, Frances Jones and husband, Randall; his brother, Hubert Moore and wife, Wanda; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Those wishing to make memorial gifts are encouraged to give to the charity of their choice.
