June Gwendolyn Sawyer Anderson

June Gwendolyn Sawyer Anderson, age 86, of Gardendale, AL passed away on March 24, 2025. June was born in Arkadelphia, Alabama and grew up and attended grade school in Arkadelphia, AL and graduated from Cold Springs High School. After graduation, June married the love of her life, Bill Anderson, and moved to Gardendale, Alabama, and had one son, Rod. Bill and June were married for over 52 years. She worked for several different Birmingham businesses over the years, the last being Busch Jewelers in Gardendale. June was a woman of deep faith and was a member of Gardendale's First Baptist Church for over 50 years, and most recently attended Mountain Brook Independent Church.. June was loved by all who knew her as a kind, sweet soul who loved Jesus, her late husband, and son and daughter-in law more than life itself. Even in the midst of her Alzheimer's disease, she thought of others and put their interests first. June and Bill loved to travel with their son, Rod, and his wife, Tammy. They ventured to numerous places over the years and enjoyed making memories together. Places visited included an East Coast trip to Upstate New York, Newport, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine. They also visited Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Alaska. They also enjoyed socializing, exploring, and eating out with friends to include Sondra & Donald Smaha, Sherry & Randy Keith, Ruth & Jim Stovall, and Matilda & John Landers, to name a few. She was preceded in death by her mother Mozell Sawyer, and father, Freelon Sawyer, and her beloved husband, Bill Anderson. She is survived by her son, Rod Anderson (Tammy), nephew Kent Anderson (Judy), and their sons Jake and Stewart, nephew Steve Rowell (Sheryl), and their daughter Sheryl Ann Braun (John), son Joshua Rowell, and by June's cousin Matilda Landers, and other extended family. Visitation will be on Friday, March 28, 12:30 pm until service. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, 2 pm, at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home in the Chapel, 2214 Decatur Highway, Gardendale AL 35071, with burial in Arkadelphia Cemetery, Arkadelphia, AL.
