James Jimmy" Lee Rogers

ROGERS, REV. JAMES L. (BROTHER JIMMY), of Sardis, AL, went home to be with his Lord on April 18, 2008. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Margaret Thomas Rogers; infant daughter, Teresa Lynn Rogers; parents, Walter and Gertrude Hodges Rogers; sister, Hazel Moore; brothers, Herman Rogers and Erskine Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Jeanette Coley Rogers; daughter, Patricia "Pat" Sokira (David); son, James Ronald Rogers (Chris), all living in Sardis, AL; grandsons, David Lee Day (Sara) of Ft. Hood, TX and Brad Hancock of Sardis, AL; granddaughter, Nicole Hancock of Sardis, AL; great-granddaughters, Loryann Day of Brookside, AL and Dallas Day of Ft. Hood, TX; sisters, Fay Reaid of Dora, Joyce Mitchell (Howard) of Warrior and June (J.C.) Halpain of Benton, AR; a niece who is considered a sister; sisters-in-law, Lila Rogers of Fultondale, Faye Thomas of Sardis, Gennie Rogers of Phoenix, AZ, Frances Nolen (Tony) of Springville, Marilou McGinnis (Allen) of Springville, Flo Phelps (Frank) of Semmes, AL; and brother-in-law, Thomas Coley of Wilmer, AL; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is also survived by his loving canine companion of 13 years, his Pekinese, Missy. Bro. Jimmy was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and former longtime member of Sardis Baptist Church. He was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and pastored many churches in Jefferson and Blount counties over a period of 50 years, including Kimberly First Baptist and Coalburg Independent Baptist Church. He did guest preaching for several churches as late as 2007. His ministry was instrumental in bringing many souls to Christ; he was faithful to his calling until the end. He was a loving husband and father; a faithful friend, kind and true, and will be missed by many. Bro. Jimmy worked many years at the Kimberly Brick Yard (A.P. Green Co.), and was later a self-employed contractor, specializing in decks and porches, building them with excellence. He loved bass and crappie fishing on Smith Lake and shared many wonderful times there with his son and with friends. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 6 to 8 pm at Gardendale Funeral Home on Hwy 31 in Gardendale, and on Monday from 1 pm to 2 pm at Sardis Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on April 21, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Sardis Baptist Church on Sardis Road in Kimberly, AL. The service will be conducted by Rev. Gene Boshell and Rev. James Abel. Music will be provided by family friend, Ron Hallmark of Warrior and will include some of Jim's favorite songs: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, All That I Am, and My Tribute (To God Be the Glory). Interment will be at Sardis Community Cemetery, Gardendale Funeral Home directing.
