Elizabeth Anne Martin

**Elizabeth Anne Martin (née Pullen)** Elizabeth Anne Martin, born on November 12, 1931, in Fairfield, Alabama passed away on August 25, 2024. She was the daughter of Jesse and Essie Pullen and was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Howard Martin, her son, Rick Martin, and her sister, Ouida Pullen Wheeler. Anne attended Ensley High School in Birmingham where she was a majorette and began many lifelong friendships. She graduated in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Howard, the same year. Anne was a Navy wife when Howard served during the Korean War. Later, they settled back in Birmingham to be near family and raise their five children. When she was in her thirties, Anne went back to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Princeton Hospital and multiple nursing homes for several years. She later worked as a secretary for the Birmingham Board of Education until her retirement. She was an active member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church, where she formed lasting friendships and served her community with love and dedication. As a ministry in her later years, she faithfully mailed cards each month to a long list of church members who were sick or unable to attend services. Anne’s hobbies and passions included spending time with friends and family, attending church, reading lots of books, watching college football, and taking daily walks. She is survived by her children, Terry Martin (Anne), Jimmy Martin (Debbie), Cindy Nash (Bryan), and Jeff Martin. She was a proud grandmother to Lesli Martin Skipper, Joy Blodgett Wright, Julie Blodgett Beckham, Brad Martin, Jessica Martin, Paige Martin Cox, Nicholas Martin, Cory Nash, and Sara Nash. Anne also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory. Her presence brought joy to many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, the burial will be held at Garden City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse in Anne's memory.
