Dorothy McAllister

MCALLISTER, DOROTHY JENKINS, 82, long time resident of North Jefferson County, passed away Sunday. Her spirit left peacefully and she joins her husband Roy in heaven. Dorothy grew up in Morris, Alabama, the daughter of Oscar and Mamie Jenkins. Her younger brothers John, Bob and Ralph - all residents of Morris - will miss her greatly. She graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School and had a successful business career before being introduced to Roy, who soon fell in love with Dorothy and convinced her to marry him and to move to Decatur, Alabama in 1975. In Decatur, she was a faithful member of Oak Park Baptist Church, making many wonderful friends there. Dorothy and Roy eventually retired to Gardendale, where they were both active in the First Baptist Church. Dorothy loved her Sunday School class immensely as well as the Senior Choir and looked forward to those events each week. Dorothy was an avid traveler and often spoke of her trips around America, which she enjoyed taking with groups of friends. She recently made a trip that gave her great joy with a group from church, taking her through the Smoky Mountains and into New England. Dorothy is survived by four sons, Bill (Jennifer) McAllister, Richard (Sherrie) McAllister, Jim McAllister and Don (Linda) McAllister. She was a loving grandmother to Amanda (Stephen) Dietz, Brian McAllister, Joel (Kristine) McAllister, James McAllister, Adam McAllister, Sarah McAllister and Caleb McAllister. She was also newly blessed with a beautiful great-grandson, Blanton Dietz. She was devoted to each of her children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and all of her great nephews and great nieces. Her love and kindness resulted in a caring home for all who she called family, whether related by blood or devotion. In life and in death Dorothy glorified her Savior, Jesus Christ and her heart's desire was to serve Him completely. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Gardendale Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Zalenski and Rev. Richard Coggin officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
