Clay Wingard

Clay Wingard, beloved husband, father, and baseball coach passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. Clay and his wife, Aimee, are high school sweethearts, who dated for 8 years. They celebrated their 30th anniversary in April and share six beautiful children together, 5 sons and 1 daughter, Blake, Drake, Rhett, Wade, Kent, and Charlotte Alyssa. He was a Network Engineer having worked in the industry for over 30 years. His passions were his family and baseball. He coached baseball from t-ball to high school with a span of more than 20 years. As a baseball player himself, he won the 1988 Dizzy Dean World Series. He went on to coach his own children, who have won multiple state, national and world series championships with him as their coach or assistant coach. In fact, on Father's Day this year, he was on the field with his son as their team, the Bama Braves, won the NCS World Series Championship. Baseball was truly a passion for him, and he was most joyful when he was sharing it with others. He believed in practicing hard, running drills, and leaving it all on the field. He knew the rules forwards and backwards and never hesitated to argue if one was missed. He was a voice for his team. His wife and children were his world. His only goal was to make sure that his wife always felt like a princess. Her happiness was his priority. He treasured the time he spent with his children watching, playing, and coaching baseball. doing projects together, and spending time as a family. You rarely saw one Wingard without another close by. Supporting and loving each other were his primary focus. He is survived by his loving wife, Aimee and children, Blake, Drake, Rhett, Wade, Kent, and Charlotte Alyssa, his brothers, Rex (Robert), Brett (Stephanie), and Zane (Sue); his nephews and nieces, Colby (Brett and Stephanie), Karsten, Camp, and Sally (Zane and Sue); Cheryl Kay Marshall (Monte and Emily). He is predeceased by his parents Morris and Betty Wingard and his sister, Rita Starr. He will live on forever in our hearts and minds and will always be remembered as a gift from God to his family as the most incredible husband, father and coach anyone could ask for. A Celebration of Life for Clay will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 7pm at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5pm to 7pm.
