Bobby Hughes,

HUGHES, BOBBY JAMES "BOB", SR., age 76, of Warrior (Smokerise), passed away on Friday, December 25, 2009. He was born February 1, 1933, the 2nd of 5 children born in Portageville Missouri to the late James and Dixie Dillon Hughes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Donna; brother, Jerry and by a grandson, Jeremy Lee. After graduating from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield Missouri in 1950 he served our country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. After his military service he worked for McDonald Douglas in St. Louis MO, he was the service manager at Sewell Ford in Kennett MO, and then worked as a salesman for Fred Jones Remanufacturing Company out of Oklahoma City OK, retiring from Fred Jones after 33 years of service. After his "retirement" he worked with the Alabama Youth Home in Wilsonville and at the Girl's Home in Warrior where the children fondly referred to him as "Uncle Bob". Active in the Nazarene Church in both Alabama and Georgia, he was head usher at Faith Church of the Nazarene in Warrior. His grandchildren were his life and he spent many enjoyable hours working in his garden with his grandchildren by his side. He spent his life serving others. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Georgia Hughes; 2 sons, Bobby Hughes, Jr. and Joe Hughes (Margaret); daughter, Gerrie Franklin; 4 grandchildren, Bobby Hughes III (Novarah), Anna McKenzie (Adam), Erin Nail (Joey) and Jeremy Joe; 2 great-grandchildren, Amelia McKenzie "Puddin" and Anna-Kate Nail; brother, Bill Hughes of Dexter, MO; sister, Louise Yeakey of St. Louis, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Church of the Nazarene with Rev. H. Lamar Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at the church from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
