Funeral services for Betty Carolyn McElroy Moore, 90, of Gardendale, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home in Gardendale, Alabama with the Reverend Mark Harrison officiating. Music will be provided by George Weeks. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the service begins. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Moore passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2024, in Gardendale, Alabama. Mrs. Moore was born on December 16, 1933, in Cullman, Alabama to Lovie and Elmer McElroy. She graduated from Cullman High School in Cullman, Alabama in 1952 and married Robert Huland Moore on April 25, 1952. She loved her family and her church, Gardendale First Baptist. Her life-long faith in Jesus Christ enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was a loving wife for 71 years, always supporting her husband and managing their busy home. She especially enjoyed being a mother and teaching her children the joy of service, kindness, and good discipline. She was a gracious and welcoming mother-in-law, and a wonderful “Mam-Mom“ to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who adored her. She was an incredible cook and enjoyed family gatherings, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to sew. She also enjoyed playing bridge, shopping, watching sports, and travel. She was quick to learn technology and followed family and friends on social media and often viewed church services online. Mrs. Moore is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert Huland Moore; her sister, Marjorie McElroy Russell; and her brothers, Hansel, Royce, Lloyd, and Van Buren McElroy. She is survived her son, Robert Terry Moore and wife, Dolores; her daughter, Diane Moore Selman and husband, Scott; grandson, Brian Andrew Selman and wife, Demetria; granddaughter, Kate Selman French and husband, Drew; great grandsons, Cooper Andrew French, Miller Robert French, and Huland Michael Selman; great granddaughter, Larsen Kate French; her sister, Joann McElroy Jones and husband Junior; sisters-in-law Eunice Moore Camp, Wanda Cochran Moore, and Frances Moore Jones and husband Randall; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Those wishing to make memorial gifts are encouraged to give to the charity of their choice.
