Mary Evelyn Shaw
August 18, 1928 - October 10, 2021
On Sunday, October 10, 2021, Mary Evelyn Shaw left this world for her heavenly home while surrounded by her beloved family. She was blessed with 93 years, one month and 22 days of life, which she lived to the fullest. Evelyn loved her church, First Baptist of Mount Olive, where she was an active member. Before Covid, she enjoyed all senior activities such as choir, Sunday School, and outings with her many friends. Evelyn was proud of her family and worked along side them in the family business, Shaw Building Supply, from its inception in 1974 up until her illness demanded she stay home. Before that, she helped her husband, Willard Shaw, manage his home improvement business, Shaw Construction & Fence Company. Willard and Evelyn Shaw moved with their three children from Millport, Alabama, their hometown, to Birmingham in 1953, settling in the small community of Thomas near Pratt City. For twenty years Willard and Evelyn made their home in Thomas, where their fourth child was born. In 1973, the Shaw family relocated to Mount Olive and established Shaw Building Supply in November, 1974. Evelyn is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Mervin Willard Shaw, her infant son, Roger Wade Shaw, and her parents, Cisrow and Mamie Wharton. She is survived by her sister, Marie Nabors of Millport, Alabama, her two daughters, Nelda Maze Butler (Jim) and Tracy Shaw Singleton (Jimmy) both of Mount Olive, her two sons, Herbert Shaw (Joanne) of The Villages, Florida, and Jerry Shaw (Cathey) of Mount Olive. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Kelley Shaw Smith (Bill), Catherine Shaw, Leigh Ann Shaw Edmonds (Gary), and Caroline Maze Cummings, three great-grandchildren, Aaron Cummings (Rachel), Zac Cummings, and Alex Cummings, and one great-great grandchild, Madeline Cummings. At the end of her life, according to her wishes, Evelyn was cared for at her home by her devoted family members. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
