Gregory Poe Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gregory E. Poe, 74, of Fultondale, AL passed away on May 22nd surrounded by family and loved ones. Greg was born on August 22, 1947, to father Chester Clayton Poe and mother Francis Emily Poe. He grew up in a loving family, and was a loving father to one child and 4 step children. He graduated from Fairfield High School before attending the State of Alabama Police Officers Training Commission and proudly served on the Tactical Operations Unit with the Birmingham Police Department. During his career he was honored as a Distinguished Firearms Expert, and the 1980 Officer of the Year. Known by many names - Dad, Pop Pop, Granddaddy, husband, friend - Greg devoted his life to God, his family and loved ones. Every birthday celebration, milestone, big (or small) life event… he was there for it all. His unwavering support and love for his children, stepchildren and grandchildren undoubtedly helped shape each of us into who we are today. A wonderful storyteller and life of the party, he had a way of making everyone in the room feel welcome. He loved making others laugh and retelling stories from precious family memories made on the many vacations, family game nights, and weekends spending time together. It goes without saying that his love and memory will live on in our hearts forever. Greg will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 34 years, Jean Poe, daughter, Andrea Beverly (Philip), bonus children, Gary Morris (Donna), Tammy Henderson (Donnie), Lynn Isbell, and April Trent (Richard) He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Preston Beverly, Camilla Beverly, Nick Harrison, Stephanie Harrison, Meghan Blackburn, Ariel Williams, Krista Frost, and Sara Brown; great grandchildren Peyton Henderson, Greyton Blackburn, Clifton Morris, Castiel Morris and Coraline Brown, and by his sister and brother, Judy Poe Osborne (Duffy) and Ronald Poe (Patricia). Greg was predeceased by his parents, Chester and Francis and his granddaughter, Tiffany Henderson Vick. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9th, at Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church at 11am in Fultondale, AL. Please join in celebrating the life of our dear Greg.
