    Dorothy "Dot" Church

    October 10, 1945 - July 26, 2021

    Dorothy “Dot” Church, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 26, 2021 Dot was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, always full of life, a great sense of humor and was a lot of fun to be around, she loved and adored her family always calling each of them her “babies”. She never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. She loved cooking and baked the best cakes and desserts. Dot was known for loving Jesus and loving to take care of people, she was a retired nurse with over 23 years combined experience at Woodland Community Hospital and Medical Center East. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Mary Frances “Nannybell” Buchanan; her stepdad, Red Self; her husbands, Gary Joe Wilks and Roger Butler; her son, Gary Glenn Wilks; one brother, Glenn Buchanan; and one sister and her husband, Janet (Kenneth) Kiley. Survivors include, her husband, Claude Church; one daughter, Christy Hopper; one step daughter, Connie (Keith) Dutton; three grandchildren, Nick (Stephani) Wilks, Luke (Paige) Wilks and Cara (Justin) Dickerson; four great grandchildren, Olivia, Harvey, Harrison and Samuel; her siblings, Gary (Kay) Buchanan, Shirley (Tommy) Lawrence, Julius Buchanan Jr. and Lorna Sims; a host of loving nieces and nephews and special lifelong friends, and also a special thank you to lifelong friend, Mary Kay Kinney for always being there. Visitation will be held at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, July 29th 5PM – 7PM. Chapel Services will be held on Friday, July 30 at 11AM with burial to follow in Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Arab.
