Wilma Jean Lee

Wilma Jean Lee of Smoke Rise, Alabama was ushered into Heaven to be with her husband Milton on January 26th, 2024. She was at home, surrounded by family, and the Lord took her peacefully in her sleep. Jean was born on June 16th, 1930, in Decatur, Alabama. She was the second of ten children born to Willis and Jessie Berry. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Lee, infant daughter, sisters Marjorie Franklin, Sue McGowin, Betty Walkey, Barbara Bennett, Nancy Whitley, her brother Charles Berry, and her parents, Willis Mason Berry, and Jessie Louise (Bradford) Berry. Jean is survived by her son, Michael Lee and wife Freda, granddaughters Kayla Chris and Danica Bates, grandson Partick Weeks, great-grandsons Ethan, Logan, and Titus, great-granddaughters Ayden, Brynlee, Ella, Tynlee, and Tynslee and by her brother Paul Berry and wife Kathy, and her two sisters Gloria Siatis and Billie Vernon and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Jean was a faithful follower of Christ for all her life and was committed member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church. She both sang in the choir, and she served on the Homebound Committee. She volunteered time and donated resources to the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She was a pillar of faith and love to her friends and family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest pride and joy in life. She instilled in her family a deep abiding love for Christ and left the world a much better place. Jean was greatly involved in the 88th Infantry Division Association in which her husband served in World War II. Jean and Milton attended the annual anniversaries and Jean provided the monthly newsletters for several years. Jean worked for and eventually retired from Bituminous Insurance Company. She managed several branches including Omaha, Nebraska, Nashville, Tennessee, and eventually retired as the Alabama Branch Manager in Birmingham, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make a charitable donation in her honor to Smoke Rise Baptist Church or other Christian charities. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”. Romans 8:28 Funeral services to honor her life will be held at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 2pm. The family will receive guests for one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville.
