Sondra Jean Turley

Sondra Jean Turley, age 80, of Mount Olive, Alabama, joined our Lord in Heaven on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on July 5, 1943, in Morris, Alabama. She is survived by her devoted husband, Frank Turley, of 63 years, her children Wesley Turley, Tracy Turley Zegler, and Cami Turley Amerson, along with grandchildren Donald Zegler, Elizabeth Zegler Kudirka, Katherine Amerson Slappendel, Caroline Amerson, Thomas Zegler, Mark Amerson, Samantha Amerson, and great-grandchildren Madeleine, Bonnie, Scott, Molly, Josie, Rush, and Claire. Sondra is also survived by her sister, LaFaye Stover of Warrior, Alabama, and her brother, Douglas McBrayer of Lake Mary, Florida, and a host of other family and friends. Sondra was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lee McBrayer and Lee Annie Sharit McBrayer; her brother Gary McBrayer; her sister Debra Abney; her son-in-law Parnell Amerson; and her great-granddaughter Abigail Kudirka. Sondra, known affectionately to many of her loved ones as Sonnie, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a godly woman of unwavering faith whose devotion to Christ was seen in every aspect of her life. A dedicated volunteer at church and a diligent prayer warrior, Sondra embodied her Christian faith through service to others. She was always willing to share her testimony and help guide others to Christ. Sondra was a skilled homemaker and master quilter, infusing love and creativity into every corner of her home. Her kitchen was a place of joy and laughter for all who gathered there, and her renowned banana pudding will always be cherished. Never afraid of adventure, she made countless memories with her loved ones traveling the world. From watching the leaves change in the Smoky Mountains, to driving cross country to the Grand Canyon, she embraced the beauty and joy of God's Creation. Sondra leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, a strong dedication to her faith, and a fierce love of family and friends. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 2 pm at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home, under the officiation of Pastor Wayne Turley. Following the service, interment will occur at Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family will be available to receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm on Tuesday.
