Roy Bragg

BRAGG, ROY FAIN, age 77, of Gardendale passed away Friday, May 11, 2007. For fifty-two years, Mr. Bragg was the beloved husband of Carolyn Berry Bragg. A loving father and grandfather, he is also survived by sons, Dr. Lev H. Bragg and wife Vicki, Dr. D. Taylor Bragg and wife Vanessa, all of Vestavia and daughter Ann Bragg Getwan and husband Nick of Gardendale. He had seven grandchildren, Courtney, Hunter and Jennifer Bragg, Ashley and Nicholas Getwan, and Stuart and Davis Bragg. Sisters include Ruth Bragg Lange (Harry) of Vestavia and Evelyne Bragg Woodford (Dan) of Albuquerque, NM, and brother W. Carl Bragg (Charylene) of Columbus, GA and several nieces and nephews. He grew up in Pinehurst, GA, graduated from Georgia Southern College with a BS degree. He obtained his MA in Education from the University of Alabama after serving in the United States Air Force. A member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, he was Chairman of the Board of Deacons. A tireless worker in civic and service organizations, he was a member and past president of the Boys and Girls Club, president of the Jefferson County Schools Foundation, past member and president of the Jefferson County Board of Education, member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham and a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club. Professionally, he spent a lifetime serving the real estate community. Chairman of J.H. Berry and Gilbert, he was a member of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors, a four term Commissioner and past president of the Alabama Real Estate Commission, past president of the Birmingham Association of Realtors, past president of the Alabama Association of Realtors and Realtor of the Year for Alabama awarded by the Alabama Association of Realtors. His devotion to education was evidenced by scholarships awarded to deserving graduates and sponsorship of the "Top Twenty Scholarship" banquet annually at Gardendale High School. Bragg Middle School in Gardendale bears his name. His continued involvement in the quality of education in the Jefferson County School System was widely recognized. A former K-12 principal, his passion for education included encouraging teachers and administrators to achieve their highest potential. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Taylor and Susie Bragg; sisters, Sara Horne, Agnes McNeill and brothers, Dr. Taylor A. Bragg, Jr. and Ernest Bragg, all of Georgia. Visitation will be at Morgan's @ Gardendale Funeral Home Saturday from 5 until 8 and also at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church from 3:00 - 4:00 Sunday. Funeral services will be at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Sunday, May 13, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. Morgan's @ Gardendale Funeral Home directing.
