Ray Otto Miller

Ray Otto Miller, a resident of Mount Olive, AL age 86, born March 2, 1931, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Visitation will be Saturday, July 15, 2017, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The service is at 1:00 p.m. with interment at Walkers Chapel Memorial Gardens. Ray was born in Birmingham, AL and attended Phillips High School. He is survived by his Spouse, E. Jean (Oldham) Miller; Children (in birth order with their spouses) Teresa D. Miller, Harold R. Miller (Mary), Mary E. Miller, and Ray O. Miller (Caren), Step-children: Michael G. McCombs (Barbara), Lisa D. Chamblee (Dennis), Daniel E. McCombs (Kelly); Grandchildren in birth order with spouses: Cassidy Sanders (Shane),Tom G. Kirkpatrick (Stefanie), Katlyn R. Blankenship (Dane), Terri E. Kirkpatrick, Benjamin L. Kirkpatrick, Kimberly A. Sanders (Eric), Karley D. Chamblee, Nathanael R. Miller, J. Rivers Chamblee, M. Logan Miller; Great Grandchild: Laney D. Sanders; Sibling: Roy F. Miller (Kay); Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his two dogs and six cats. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Franklin and Alice Alva (Benton) Miller; also, Ray married February 6, 1960 to Evelyn Ruth Hardin, who died September 9, 1964. He then married Linda Miller, November 2, 1968. Linda died on July 25, 1984. He retired from Jones Truck Line as a truck driver. He loved to fish and often fished at Lake Guntersville with the family. Ray was an avid Braves fan. He loved working with his hands, whether it being working in his garden or crafting in his woodworking shop off from the house. Ray spent the better part of his last 30 + years adding on to his and his wife Jean’s home in Mount Olive. Ray was often found early in the morning hanging with his friends at the local Jack’s in Mount Olive, sipping on coffee and talking about the latest events. He attended First Weslyan Church, Birmingham, AL as well as Gateway Baptist in Fultondale, AL. Upon his death, he was a member of Gardendale First Baptist, Gardendale, AL. In his later years, Ray enjoyed traveling between Indiana and Florida hauling RV’s, RV camping in Maggie Valley, North Carolina and St Augustine, Florida. He also served his country proudly in the Air Force as Staff Sergeant during the Korean War; Ray’s job was to load the bombs onto the aircraft. He was decorated with a Korean Service Medal and UN Sv Medal and Nat Des Sv Medal.
