Dorothy Lorraine "Rene" Wicker

Wicker, Dorothy Lorraine Pearson (“Rene”), age 86, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014. She was surrounded by her family whom she loved deeply. Rene was born on January 16, 1928 in Selma, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Johnnie Smith Wicker, Jr., who passed away just a few months prior to their 50th wedding anniversary; and her parents Cleaboth Franklin Pearson and Annefranc Stillings Pearson. She is survived by her daughters Carol June Wicker and Amy Elizabeth Wicker Lankford; sons Richard Franklin Wicker (Donna) and John Charles Wicker (Amy); granddaughters Jamie Wicker Waldrop (David), Sally Wicker McKay (Travis) and Christie Eady; grandsons Zachary Pearson Wicker (Morgan), Johnathan Scott Lankford (Cassie), Jeffrey Todd Lankford, Jay Richard Lankford, Josh Dunn Lankford and Neal Eady (Jennifer); great-granddaughters Mackenzie Marie Lankford, Allison Lanier Waldrop, Madison Nicole Eady and Maisie Grace Davis; great-grandsons David William Waldrop, James Lucas Waldrop, Matthew Jase Waldrop, Travis Palmer McKay and John Colin McKay; sister Linda Pearson Callaway, brother John Thomas Pearson (Polly); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rene grew up in Mobile and Homewood, Alabama She graduated from Shades Cahaba High School and attended the University of Alabama. During that time in her life she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Prior to her marriage she worked for Alabama Gas Company. Later, she and her family moved to Northport, Alabama, where they had many friends. She was a member of Northport United Methodist Church and later was a charter member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Northport. Rene’s family moved to Gardendale in 1971 where she and her husband owned Gardendale Cleaners. She was an active member of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. Rene was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family was her greatest joy. She relished the time she shared with her family and many friends. Doing for other people was a priority in her life. The funeral will be held at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church on Monday, December 29, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be made to the Open Door Sunday School Class or The Child Enrichment Center at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 805 Crest Drive, Gardendale, Alabama 35071; the American Cancer Society; or the American Heart Association.
