Daniel Edward Miller

Daniel Edward Miller, 60, loving husband and father, was welcomed by Christ Jesus into Heaven on November 23, 2024. He was born to Ed and Linda Miller on September 29, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama, the second of three children. Working with his father as a child, Danny developed a work ethic that would persevere throughout his entire life. During that time, he learned a range of skills that proved him to be a true Renaissance man. Danny spent his childhood constructing fences, practicing carpentry, repairing vehicles, delivering wedding cakes, hunting wildlife, learning archery, raising livestock, showing horses, hitting homers, painting masterpieces, scoring touchdowns, etc. Danny's creativity knew no bounds, and his problem-solving skills had no rival. After graduating from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1982, he earned his bachelor's of science degree in marketing from UAB. During this time, he also gained a great deal of experience in construction working for Ed Glenn. He then joined the banking industry, starting as a night shift manager at AmSouth in 1988. After a few short years, though, his talents were recognized, and he was quickly promoted. In 1998 he was hired at SouthTrust where he served as a company vice president. In that work, Danny developed a proficiency in both management and technology. He would often learn the responsibilities of his staff to better support them. When SouthTrust merged with Wachovia, Danny had the option to continue his climb up the corporate ladder in Atlanta, Georgia, but, instead, he chose to accept a layoff in order to remain home with his family and his new church, Calcedonia Baptist (Gardendale, Alabama). At the age of 12, Danny accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. However, his zeal for God grew greatly as a young adult. Listening to John MacArthur's sermons on the night shift at the bank kindled his desire to share the gospel even further. He sought to witness whenever possible. Danny would often carry food and tracts with him wherever he went, seeking opportunities to meet people's physical and spiritual needs. It was not uncommon for him to aid the stranded on the side of the road. Danny would also lead Bible studies during his lunch breaks at the bank. He also went on several rigorous mission trips to Belize with Jerrel Brown. Eventually, Danny was ordained as a deacon at Glennwood Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the benevolence committee for a time. However, he felt the irresistible call to preach and was ordained as a pastor by David Bays. He was soon given the opportunity to shepherd his own congregation by Calcedonia Baptist Church in 2004 where he remained until his death. Ever faithful, he exposited Scripture verse by verse there for 20 years. This was not Danny's only calling, though. Having taken the step of faith to leave his successful career in the banking industry, he was surprised to learn that teaching was the Lord's plan for him. In God's sovereign timing, Danny was offered a job teaching Bible and history at Tabernacle Christian School in 2005. He continued there until his death, teaching hundreds of children, as well as coaching many of them in football, baseball, and archery. Four of those children that he taught and coached were his own sons, the products of his marriage with his wife of 35 years (September 23, 1989). Danny loved his family dearly, sacrificed for them constantly, and provided an unwavering example of what a Christian should be. Danny had the mind of an engineer, the hands of an artist, and the heart of a pastor. Danny gave that heart fully to his Master's work until it was completely spent. He will be greatly missed, especially by his wife and children, but we thank God for his life and the time we had with him. Danny is survived by his wife, Rhonda Kay Miller; four sons, Will (Erin), Nate (fiancée Anna), Micah (Shae), and Cam; parents, Ed and Linda Miller; sister, Carole Kaetz (Karl); and brother, Keith (Billie). He was also excitedly awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, who will bear Danny's name. Visitation will be held at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be held at Gardendale Baptist Tabernacle on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11am. The service will be conducted by Andrew Peters, Karl Kaetz, and Steve Loggins. Burial will follow at Calcedonia Baptist Cemetery in Gardendale. In lieu of flowers, please, make donations to either Calcedonia Baptist Church or Tabernacle Christian School.
