Charlotte Belcher

Charlotte Ann Lawson Belcher, age 72 of Gardendale, was called home to be with her heavenly Father on September 21, 2015. Charlotte, “Mia” to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many others was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Laney Lawson, Sr. and Willie Kate Odom Lawson. Survivors include her devoted husband, James Lester Belcher sons Jay L Belcher (Lisa); Jonathan L. Belcher; grandchildren, Justin L Belcher; Laney Kyle Belcher; Timberlynn L. Belcher; Malia Lambert; and Kyle Chandler. Great grandchildren: Cody Lee Belcher and Krymson Z. Lambert. Sisters, Barbara Sue Cordell (James Rushing); Wanda Reynolds (Jim); brother, Charles Lawson (Pam); Nieces: Sharon Rushing (Bryan); and Melanie Brownlee (Luke). Nephews: Gary Cordell (Lauren); Grant Reynolds; Daniel Lawson (Candace). Great nieces: Bethani McGee, Diann McGee, Rachel McGee; and Abigail Jane Lawson. Great nephew: Jacob Rushing. Numerous cousins and friends. Charlotte was a true treasure to her family. She was kind, compassionate, loving and quick witted. She loved a good laugh and you were guaranteed one if you spent more than 5 minutes with her. She was known for opening her doors to her family and her children’s friends when they needed a bed or a good Southern meal. Her family was her great love and they never doubled that love. Charlotte loved flowers of all kinds and was trained as a floral designer. She also enjoyed cooking, and was a voracious reader. Charlotte was retired from the Alabama College System, with stops at Jefferson County Extension System; University of Alabama Birmingham, and Jefferson State Community College. Charlotte graduated from Corner High School where she was in the top of her class and a BETA Club member. She attended Jefferson State College. Charlotte made our lives brighter and richer. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at The New Gardendale Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 24, 2015 in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Odum Nail Cemetery in Mt. Olive, AL.
