Charles Junior Pope

Charles Junior Pope went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 16, 2026, at age 88, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Pope, his mother, Essie Taylor and his son, Mark Pope. He is survived by his wife, Arleen Pope, his sister, Linda Underwood (Rick), son Mattison Pope (Gay), grandson, Justin Pope (Maribeth), granddaughter, Kristin Lyvers (Matthew), great grandchildren, Colby and Blake Pope, Emily, Michael and Carden Lyvers and many nieces and nephews. At sixteen years old, Charles obeyed his Lord and was buried into Christ for the remission of his sins. He was taught the Gospel by Ed Britt of Plant City, Florida where Charles was living as a young man. He never forgot the commitment he made that day and remained faithful for the remainder of his life. When Charles met the beautiful red-headed Mary Ann Jones, he fell hard and they married about three months later in 1958. She was also converted to Christ and together they raised two fine boys. She passed away in 1983 after cancer took her at far too young an age. Charles was a Doctor of Chiropractic and practiced 48 years in his beloved profession. He was a servant of humanity and worked tirelessly to help others achieve better health. He was a popular physician and seemed to have a special bond with so many of his patients. With that in mind, he searched diligently to find the solution to their problems. Almost without exception the patient was made to feel better before they left his office, but he never took credit for his success. All he’d say was, “I’m grateful for the ability God gave me.” He was truly a magnet for all but especially children who had previously feared doctors. He was so proud of the men that his sons Mark and Matt became and the accomplishments they achieved. His love for them was boundless. Just like his grandchildren and greats! He was also a treasured friend. If you needed something he was there to help. When he made a friend, it was for life. Arleen Wilsher had previously worked for Dr. Pope and Mary Ann in their clinic so after Mary Ann’s passing they began dating and then married in 1988. She says that working with Dr. Pope was the thrill of a lifetime. There was nothing in the world like watching him help those in pain and seeing them smile as they left. She said Dr. Pope had been blessed by God to have the instinct to look for answers and the knowledge from chiropractic college and his continuing education to be able to treat each patient individually. Everyone was different and had a unique problem. He treated each one like they were the only patient in the world. Dr. Pope’s commitment to God and the Lord’s church, his family, and his patients sum up the full life of a wonderful human being. He is loved beyond measure and will be missed until we are joined in Heaven. I Thessalonians 4:16-18 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
