Carolyn Berry Bragg

Carolyn Berry Bragg, age 88, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on July 30, 2023. Carolyn grew up in North Birmingham, and graduated from Phillips High School and the University of Alabama. She married Roy F. Bragg, and they raised their three children in Gardendale. After Roy's death in 2007, she lived in the Brookside community of Homewood. She made many wonderful friends in each of these locations. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roy F. Bragg, her parents, John H. and Elizabeth H. Berry, and her beloved sister, Elizabeth "Nena" Biddle. She is survived by her three children; Lev(Vicki) Bragg, Ann(Nick) Getwan, and Taylor(Vanessa) Bragg. Carolyn loved her family, and was especially proud of her 7 grandchildren: Courtney(Josh) Clarke, Hunter(Mary Beth) Bragg, Jenn(Joe) Gross, Ashley(Kip) Chisholm, Nicholas(Alexa) Getwan, Stuart(Stephanie) Bragg, and Davis(Heather) Bragg. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Oliva, Judah, Micah, and Asher Clarke, Vera and Oliver Bragg, Cyrus Gross, Riley Kate Bragg, and Ann Miller Chisholm. Besides her family, Carolyn loved her friends and her church. As a young adult she was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. She and Roy taught a young married Sunday school class at Gardendale First Baptist Church for years, and they were friends and mentors to many young couples. As senior adults, Roy and Carolyn joined Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, where they were well loved and cared for. Throughout her life, Carolyn demonstrated the gift of hospitality. She loved hosting, feeding, and caring for family and friends in her home. Much of her life was lived in her kitchen and being around her dining room table. This was always a fun and welcoming place to be. The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers LaTonya Milton and Patrice Moore, as well as the staff at Always There and Affinity Hospice for their kindness and compassion in caring for mom. There will be a Celebration of Life service on August 13, 2023 at Gardendale Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church or Doulos Partners Ministry.
