Bess Smith

SMITH, BESS CLARK, 88, of Birmingham passed away on August 1, 2009. She spent her life spreading joy and laughter to those around her. She was a long time member of Saint Barnabas Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, assisted with meals for Senior Citizens and worked in the Food Pantry. She was past President of the St. Barnabas School PTA. Mrs. Smith was retired from Medical Center East Hospital where she lovingly greeted those arriving for emergency care. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James C. Smith, Sr. and grandson, Greg Hart. She was the last survivor of the eight children of Joseph H. and Nora Clark of Church Hill, TN. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Woods (Tom) of Hoover, Jackie Albrecht (Ken) of Huntsville, and three sons, James C. Smith, Jr. (Janet) of Roswell, GA, Tom (Jan) of Birmingham, and Mike (Faith) of Hoover. She is survived by grandchildren Chris Hart (Ken Cordle), Kevin Hart (Susan), Gina Ingram (Shane), Kim Guthrie (Scott), Amanda Edenfield (Clint), Kendra Collins (Robin), Krista Smith, Janelle Madi (George), Erin Smith, Jessica Albrecht, and Seth Albrecht (Chris); great grandchildren: Miranda Ingram, Christian Nicodemus, Addison and Payton Edenfield, Angelica and Caitlin Hart, Abbey Collins, Adeliz Smith-Duran, Shane and Jordan Albrecht. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church with burial to follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church on Monday, August 3, 2009 from 5 until 8 p.m. with a Wake- Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Chris and Kevin Hart, Danny DeVaughn, Shane Ingram, Robin Collins, George Madi, and Clint Edenfield.
