Glenn Bagwell

BAGWELL, MR. GLENN E., age 92, passed away December 11, 2007. He was born on September 11, 1915 in Russellville, Alabama and became a resident of Corner, Alabama in 1925. He was the second generation of Bagwell Farms, son of the late John D. and Evie Bagwell of Corner. During his early years he assisted his father in shipping produce to various military bases as well as local wholesale businesses. Later, he established Glenn Bagwell Farms, where he spent most of his career growing and shipping produce throughout the Southeast. He took great pleasure in watching his crops grow and being with his family. He was a member of the Jefferson County Truck Growers Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Through the years, Mr. Bagwell and wife Sybil hosted church gatherings, family dinners, and were active and well respected members of the community. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all farming and spending time with grandchildren and other family members. He was a man of character who knew the Lord and was a role model for the younger generations in his family. He is survived by his wife, Sybil Bagwell. Other survivors include three daughters, Barbara Thomas and husband Terry of Corner, Brenda Franklin and husband Allen of LaGrange, Georgia and Glenda Wakefield and husband Danny of Corner; seven grandchildren, Daniel Wakefield and wife Candace of Corner, Samuel Wakefield of Corner, Patrick Wakefield of Corner, Jeff Franklin and wife Iris of Rome, Georgia, Molly Little and husband Jason of Atlanta, Georgia, Teresa Duque and husband Sid of Davies, Florida, and Tammy McAnnally and husband Mike of Houston, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren. Service will be held Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with burial at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Gardendale Funeral Home. Dr. Sammie Reid and Rev. Doug Tate officiating.
